Day 5 : Wednesday 12th July
A glorious sunny day when work continued to the echoes of wailing seals. Part of the rubble on the south-east side of the chancel was removed to reveal a possible continuation of the enclosing wall. The area around yesterday's possible cross-slab was recorded and the stone lifted. Much to everyone's disappointment it was found to have no markings. The tumble on the south side of the nave was completely recorded and should be removed tomorrow while steady progress was made on the north side of the chapel where the enclosing wall is now well defined. One further fragment of Iron Age pottery was discovered today.

The enclosing wall on the north side of the chapel is now better defined as general cleaning and recording carries on in the surrounding areas.

Digger of the Day: Ruth Kivlis

We were able to have a break today as the monks undertook the blessing and naming of their barge "St Brigid" The blessing was done in Latin and the barge was christened by Breda Miller. This was followed by a small celebration before going back to work.
